Kenya Poverty Action (KPA) is a UK-registered charity (No. 1209449) committed to ending poverty in Kenya’s most underserved and overlooked regions. We partner with local communities to implement and support grassroots solutions that drive long-term, sustainable change.

What we DO
We confront poverty at its roots, through community-led solutions. We believe that those most affected by poverty hold the deepest insights into how to overcome it. Our role is to support, fund, and amplify their efforts to create lasting change in their local communities. Our work spans across interconnected focus areas designed to unlock potential, strengthen resilience, and promote dignity at every level of society.
Human Capital AND sOCIAL Development
We invest in building the knowledge, skills, and capacity of individuals—especially youth and women—to drive sustainable change in their communities. Our programs focus on leadership training, vocational skills, and health education to unlock local potential.
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (wash)
We provide clean water access, promote proper sanitation, and support hygiene education to reduce disease and improve quality of life in rural and underserved areas. Our interventions include borehole drilling, latrine construction, and behavior change campaigns.
Youth and Women Empowerment
We empower marginalized groups—especially youth and women—to participate fully in economic, civic, and leadership spheres. Through mentorship, financial inclusion, and reproductive health education, we help dismantle systemic barriers.
Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture
We work with smallholder farmers to increase agricultural productivity using drought-resistant crops, organic inputs, and agroecological practices. Through farmer field schools and input support, we promote resilient food systems that reduce hunger and poverty.
lOCAL Digital Inclusion and Innovation
We leverage digital tools to improve service delivery, from mobile health alerts to remote monitoring of water systems. Our innovation hubs support young people to co-create solutions to pressing development challenges.
Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response
We build community resilience to natural shocks through early warning systems, preparedness training, and post-disaster recovery support. Our rapid response units provide clean water, shelter, and basic supplies during emergencies.

CATALYTIC GRANTS
Supports early-stage big ideas, or projects with a bold vision that addresses poverty. Catalytic Grants are designed to empower communities to accelerate the impact of locally led initiatives that drive equity, resilience, and prosperity.
IMPACT GRANTS
Provides general operating support to already established initiatives tackling poverty by strengthening infrastructure, skills development, and economic opportunities.
eMERGENCY RELIEF
Support rapid-response funding requests for communities facing climate shocks, disasters, or any other humanitarian crises. ERG grants provide food aid, medical assistance, shelter, and livelihood recovery.
